New online patent inspection service launched
UK business could save nearly £100,000 per year thanks to a free patent system launched by the Intellectual Property Office (IPO). The new online service, called Ipsum, will remove the cost to businesses of requesting patent documents; instead they will now be available for free at the click of a button.
International patent application process made simpler - and cheaper
New arrangements for filing patents in Europe which cut costs for UK businesses came into place at the start of 2011. The European Patent Office (EPO) now needs fewer documents than before, which save companies money on the fees they pay to agents.
Costs of defending patents, trademarks and copyrighted material to be capped
The cost of defending patents, trademarks or copyrighted materials against infringement in the Patent County Court (PCC) is to be capped at £50,000 from Friday (October 1).
The Ministry of Justice has introduced the measure as part of its effort to "promote access to justice at proportionate costs", following a review by Lord Justice Jackson.
