The World Bank has just released its Doing Business 2011 report, which rated the UK as fourth in the world on its Ease of Doing Business Ranking.
Responding to the report Minister for Business and Enterprise Mark Prisk said "Overall, the UK is now the best place in the G8 and the EU to run a small firm. This is a fantastic achievement that will be bolstered by our initiatives at Monday's Small Business Summit aimed at boosting enterprise and increasing access to finance."
Does this ring true with your experience - or is it just 'spin'?
Good topic Dave.
I have just left full time employment at a fabulous clinic in Manchester www.mncweb.co.uk , and taken the plunge.moving 280 miles south to Torquay, If my first year turnover gets to 30 k I will be seriously chuffed. My profit in the first year is pretty unlikely to be significant and I should imagine that s about par for the course.
Because I have two ( extra ordinarily ) lovely kids, HMG will pay us around £ 700 per month which is a huge help... sinking into an overdraft by that much each month could be pretty painful for any start up. Why its linked to the fact I have kids I am not sure, but it works for us. System needs a tweak methinks
